An experienced carpenter and roofer that erected a scaffold outdoors slipped and fell off the platform, landing roughly six feet below, fracturing his ankle and heel.  As a result of the injury he needed to have surgery and was on crutches for several months.  While the defendant disputed how the accident happened and claimed that the accident victim failed to use an available safety harness, Steven Dorfman was able to successfully negotiate a pretrial settlement for $1.175 million dollars.  This result was particularly impressive because the case was located in a county in upstate New York that is known for very small and conservative jury verdicts.  The settlement was one of many of the firm's settlements that was featured in the New York Law Journa's top settlements for 2012.
